There are an infinite number of tools and materials you can use to create a costume. This list is intended to give you a basic idea of the things you might need to get started. There are no “right” or “wrong” materials: use what works best for you.

 Basic Supplies

Upholstery Foam (For head, feet and body padding)


My Thread preference is Gutermann thread

Duct Tape (For patterning)
Good Sharp Scissors

Pet Clippers (For shaving the head fur)

I use Andis Ceramic Clippers

Faux leather
Fleece (For the tongue)
Instamorph for teeth and claws

Plastic Canvas for the eyes

I use Darice Plastic Canvas

White Plastic for the eyes

I use Tap Plastics HDPE Sheets

Acrylic Paint
Slip on Shoes (For the footpaws)
Tailor’s Chalk
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Box Cutter (For cutting fur)
Pet Brush
BBQ Grill Scraper (For picking seams)
At home gym mats (Can be found at Walmart in the sporting-goods section)
Straight Pins
Mannequin head
